LXR’s plan calls for a new 300-room Waldorf-Astoria hotel at the site of the current Bahia Mar Fort Lauderdale city commissioners and LXR Resorts have agreed to the outline of a 100-year lease of the city-owned land where the aging Bahia Mar hotel stands. The agreement clears a major hurdle in LXR’s plans to refurbish the hotel and construct a Waldorf-Astoria on the site. For four years, LXR has been trying to negotiate the terms of a $500 million renovation of the Bahia Mar. According to LXR estimates, the city will receive $2 billion under the lease. The plan includes a renovation of the 15-story Bahia Mar hotel, a 300-room Waldorf-Astoria to be constructed, and two condo towers.
