There will be plenty of other prizes, as well.
The entry fee for the contest is $20, which includes a BugFest T-shirt. Participants must be at least 18 years of age and a certified scuba diver. You have until midnight on July 23rd to register and compete in four categories:
- Biggest bug caught off a boat
- Biggest bug caught on a beach dive off Lauderdale-by-the-sea
- Biggest bug caught during the one-tank dive
- Biggest bug caught during the two-tank dive
Other prizes include a dive computer and an atomic regulator. All prizes will be given out at the Master Lobster Chef Competition and all judging will be done based on weight.
Master Chef Lobster Competition
Another competition going on over the weekend is the Master Chef Lobster Event. Teams of chefs will compete from 6pm to 8pm at El Prado Park. This event is hosted by the Lenore Nolan-Ryan Cooking School. Teams will have 45 minutes to cook the best lobster dish using two tails. The event is free to attend and beer and wine are available for purchase.
The Lobster Cookout
July 26th will feature the final event of the weekend, the lobster cookout. This event will be held at El Prado Park and the cost is $25. Of course, if you want to save a little cash, you can bring your own lobster for $5 off the price. Come out and enjoy lobster, beer, wine and live calypso music from 7pm to 9pm.
